Switchfoot update

I'm a huge Switchfoot fan, and have been since New Way to be Human came out many years ago. I heard exciting news today that I thought I'd pass along.

A few weeks/months ago Switchfoot announced they had went independant. See here for the thread that was posted when this happened:Switchfoot gains independance

Anyway, I got word today from EMICMG that Jon Foreman's first EP entitled Fall has a tentative release date of January 15, 2008. It will be released on Credential Recordings, which also has Future of Forestry, Dizmas, Edison Glass, and a few others. Now of course, this is all just happening, so some things can change. I don't know if there will be a seperate main stream release, but I assume there probably will.

The even more exciting news, is that I received a copy of the Fall EP from my rep.

Now of course this is a pre-release, so like with any pre-release, the songs may change. (The pre-release of Remedy is slightly different that the actual release.)

So for all you Switchfoot fans, be on the look out. It's nothing ground-breaking, but it is really good. It's very organic/acoustic/folk. Jo Foreman is such a great songwriter. There are very little if any electric instruments used (electric guitar, synths, electric bass, keyboard, etc.) The drums are VERY minimal to say the least. Lots of great instruments like harmonica, violins, cello, double bass, piano, acoustic guitar, trumpet, organ, and something I can figure out what it is. Maybe an oboe. Either way, after hearing this, I can't wait to hear what's next.

I just saw them tonight in Springfield and then I was walking into my hotel and John was playing in the lobby. Pretty good and interesting.

yeah I heard he was releasing four EP's.... fall winter spring summer....and that switchfoot had already recorded their next album

Those guys can really lay down the material. and it's always good so I'm not complaining.

I don't know what I think of that idea. I mean, I love John Foreman and all, but, c'mon, I don't think anyone could pull that song off besides mewithoutyou.

No, it's not the same song, and for the record, I don't think that would ever happen. I don't think Foreman could pull off the screaming that long.

I couldn't find one for Love Sets You Free. There are multiple YouTube versions of each song that I posted. I tried to pick what I thought represented the song the best. I've listed to each song about 15 times (I'm not exaggerating either.) This is a powerful EP. The lyrics are off the chart and brutely honest. The EP also highlights his insane ablility to lay down some great acoustic guitar instrumentation. Can't wait for this to hit the streets. If the next Switchfoot CD follows the same road, it's going to be great.

A little more info:

Millions have experienced the music of Jon Foreman through the multi-platinum success of his internationally-renown band, Switchfoot. Jon returns to his indie-scene roots by releasing four solo EPs prior to the next Switchfoot release. These EPs, titled Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer, features some of Jon’s most personal songs to date with innovative arrangements and inspired and intimate production. This two disc collection features both the Fall & Winter EPs in their entirety. (The Spring EP and Summer EP will be released in a separate two disc collection later in 2008.)

So based on this, the Fall and Winter EP's will be released on January 15, 2008.

I'm just wondering why I didn't get Winter too. Oh well, I can wait patiently like everyone else.
